A delightful two-week summer break has become a cherished tradition for our family, where the days are long, the beaches less crowded, and an easy and relaxing vibe fills the air. But the school holidays for our kids extend throughout July and August. As the summer season rolls on, we were not nearly ready to end our vacation mode. Determined to make the most of it, we set our sights on enjoying unforgettable family weekends!
Our first weekend escapade took us to a small city just an hour away from home, a place we hadn't yet explored. The day was beautiful, and the old streets charmed us as we wandered through a festival celebrating domestic crafts like pottery, carpentry, blacksmithing, and embroidery. The kids were curious and engaged, learning about history and art in a fun and interactive way. We also found time to unwind at quaint cafes, savoring refreshing drinks and delicious local treats, creating heartwarming memories together.
Another weekend, we embarked on a hiking expedition in a nearby national park. The lush greenery, the soothing sound of birds chirping, and the sight of wildlife left us in awe. Our little adventurers were thrilled to spot squirrels, birds, and other critters while we enjoyed a delightful picnic in the grass. After the hike, dipping our feet in the freezing brook added a touch of excitement to the day, and we captured countless photos to preserve the magic of the moment.
The next weekend, we invited friends to join us on a spontaneous adventure to the public pool! The kids were ecstatic, jumping in and out of the water, while we adults chatted away, catching up while keeping a watchful eye on the youngsters.
The camping experience was always on our bucket list to discover. So we set up a tent in our backyard. The kids were thrilled. They spent the evening in the tent, telling stories and giggling as they drifted to sleep, while my partner and I enjoyed the moment by a cozy firepit, gazing at the stars, and cherishing the beauty of nature within the comfort of our home.
Even on rainy days, the family fun continues. We transform our living room into a home theater for exciting movie nights. Opening the windows, leting in the fresh night breeze and the sound of raindrops or crickets chirping, as we choose films or shows. The kids, with their current Grand Tour obsession, usually fall asleep halfway through, but the shared time together is what matters most.
My husband and I even managed to sneak in some special evening escapes together without kids! Boys stayed with grandparents, as we headed out to the city on a late lunch and eagerly await the warm summer nightlife. Leisurely strolling and enjoying uninterrupted conversations. In the outdoor theater we enjoyed a concert and danced the night away. These moments are just what we need, ha, ha!
Sometimes we can't take the entire weekend for fun, but we always try to squeeze in a bike ride or a walk in the nearby fields to reset and step away from screens if possible. The best part of these fun family weekends and escapes is that they don't have to be planned weeks ahead, nor do they need to be extravagant or expensive. It's all about embracing the beauty of togetherness, cherishing the spontaneous little moments, and finding joy in the simplest of things. Here's to a summer filled with laughter and a love for adventures with our dear ones!
Flipping through old photos, sometimes I think I even like more these kind of short adventures for various reasons. I know there's a world of possibilities out there waiting to be discovered.
