Last Sunday, friends gathered at our house to spend a hot July day together. We sat in the dense shade of the maple tree in the garden, enjoying pleasant conversations and refreshing drinks. The children cooled off with water guns and had fun in the pool. The scene was idyllic and relaxed, perfect for a summer afternoon.
Since most of our friends don't drink alcohol, the day before our gathering, I made simple ice cubes with pieces of organic lemon and fresh mint. What initially seemed like a small detail turned out to be the hit of the day. These refreshing ice cubes went perfectly with every drink, adding a pleasant touch of freshness and visually enhancing each beverage. Instead of lemon, you could also use berries. Here?s the recipe.
Ice Cubes with Lemon, Lime, Mint, Berries
Ingredients:
- 1 organic lemon or lime
- Fresh mint
- Berries of your choice (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries)
- Water
Instructions:
- Preparing the fruit and mint: Thoroughly wash the organic lemon or lime and cut it into thin slices. Gently rinse the fresh mint under cold water. If you choose to use berries, wash them well too.
- Preparing the ice molds: Place a small piece of lemon or lime, a few mint leaves, and/or some berries into each ice mold. You can combine them as desired ? the possibilities are endless.
- Adding water: Fill the molds with water, place them in the freezer for a few hours until they are completely frozen, and you?ll have a delightful addition to your summer drinks.
Usage Ideas
Refreshing drinks: These ice cubes go perfectly with sparkling water, cocktails, fruit juices, or even plain water. They give the drink a subtle flavor and an extra aesthetic touch.
Cocktails: For cocktail lovers, these ice cubes are a real summer treat. Add them to your favorite gin and tonic, mojito, hugo spritz, or any other summer drink.
Children's drinks: Kids will also love the colorful ice cubes. Add them to lemonade, iced tea, or even their favorite fruit juices. They will enjoy a tasty and refreshing drink.

The July afternoon under the maple tree was truly unforgettable, not just because of the ice cubes, of course, but still... Sometimes, the simplest ideas bring the most joy. Enjoy the summer!
